The Curtain Playhouse was founded in 2005 with a mission of bringing quality theatre education to the Denver area. In 2020, we will celebrate our 150th production. It is our mission to develop in our students confidence in their own sense of creativity, and an understanding of the creation of live performance.
We are committed to teaching strong theatre skills and hold our students to high standards of character including respect, responsibility, acceptance and integrity.
Students do not audition to be a part of our classes. It is our belief that the theatre community needs many different types of people- from actors & musicians to lighting designers & costumers. We never know who we will meet along the way and how they may be inspired to create.
We operate in a black-box theater (a movable seating area, a movable stage, and a flexible lighting system) with actors close to the audience. This offers our students the opportunity to open the door to physical freedom and emotional availability on stage. The Curtain Playhouse offers theatre for youth that includes technical theatre training for students interested in producing, directing, costuming, properties management and lighting.
