Welcome To Fall 2024

At The Curtain Playhouse we have classes for students in Kindergarten through High School. No audition is required and all students are accepted regardless of skill level. If you have questions about our class offerings please email us at perform@thecurtainplayhouse.com.

This Fall,
The Curtain Playhouse is offering classes for three different age groups:
Grades K - 4 meet Tuesdays, 4:30 - 6:00
Grades 4 - 12 meet Wednesdays, 4:30 - 6:30
Grades K - 4 meets Thurssdays, 5:00 - 6:30

**We consider 4th grade a "cross-over year". Some families feel their child is ready to move-up to the older group, some feel they should stay with the younger kids. If your child is newer to theatre, we usually recommend they stay with the younger group.

The delicious adventures experienced by Charlie Bucket on his visit to Willy Wonka's mysterious chocolate factory light up the stage in this captivating adaptation of Roald Dahl's fantastical tale. Featuring the enchanting songs from the 1971 film starring Gene Wilder, in addition to a host of fun new songs, "Willy Wonka Kids" is a scrumdidilyumptious musical guaranteed to delight everyone's sweet tooth.

"Willy Wonka Kids" follows enigmatic candy manufacturer Willy Wonka as he stages a contest by hiding golden tickets in five of his scrumptious candy bars. Whomever comes up with these tickets will win a free tour of the Wonka factory, as well as a lifetime supply of candy. Four of the five winning children are insufferable brats, but the fifth is a likeable young lad named Charlie Bucket, who takes the tour in the company of his equally amiable grandfather. The children must learn to follow Mr. Wonka's rules in the factory — or suffer the consequences.

The same class is offered on BOTH Tuesdays & Thursdays.

Join us this semester for Matilda Jr., a gleefully witty ode to the the anarchy of childhood and the power of imagination! This story of a girl who dreams of a better life and the children she inspires will have audiences rooting for the "revolting children" who are out to teach the grown-ups a lesson.

Matilda has astonishing wit, intelligence... and special powers! She's unloved by her cruel parents but impresses her schoolteacher, the highly lovable Miss Honey. Matilda's school life isn't completely smooth sailing, however – the school's mean headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, hates children and just loves thinking up new punishments for those who don't abide by her rules. But Matilda has courage and cleverness in equal amounts, and could be the school pupils' saving grace!

Now there are TWO performance weekends so EVERYONE gets to see the show!

We are making plans to attend the Junior Theatre West Festival in Sacramento, CA-February 6-10, 2025!

The Junior Theater Festival is a festival produced by iTheatrics for children in grades 4-12.  held every year in Sacramento and Atlanta, GA. It is designed for serious minded performers who are committed to working hard and delivering an amazing performance. Organizations from all over the world attend each year and present a 15 minute condensed version of a Broadway Jr. show.

The weekend festival includes the show presentation, workshops, guest speakers, awards, and a ticket to a Broadway-style performance. All of this is available for the organization presenting their show, the directors, and the parent chaperones.

This is a great opportunity for our kids to do a production, meet other kids from around the United States and beyond who love musical theatre, see working professionals and take workshops. The JTF25 cast will have a rehearsal schedule based on their conflicts.  The cast will also have a send off performance.

How old do you have to be?: 4th-12 grade.

Will there be chaperones?

Yes, parents are VERY important to our experience. .

Will there be fundraising involved?

Assistance with fundraising is available. Fundraising is parent driven, and is not required.

Yes. You can make your own airfare or transportation plans as long as you have a parent with you.

What is the rehearsal schedule like?

We will have some rehearsals for this special event beginning in the late fall. We hope to minimize rehearsal time by taking a production that has already performed at The Curtain Playhouse. We may have one or two rehearsals in Oct-Dec but most of the rehearsals will be in January. We will put together a rehearsal calendar based on conflicts that will make the most sense for all of our students.
